WHO WE ARE
Nihi Indigenous Media is a Micronesian production house based in Guåhan (Guam), committed to building Indigenous power and community both locally and across our region through strategic media and storytelling. Founded by Chamoru organizers resisting militarization and threats to our land and water, Nihi exists to shift narrative power – equipping Pacific peoples to be authors of our own stories and protectors of our homelands.
We are rooted in frontline communities: our staff come from working-class, multigenerational island families living at the intersection of climate crisis, militarization, displacement, and extraction. Our leadership and creative direction are guided through direct relationships with elders, youth, cultural practitioners, educators, and grassroots partners, all grounded in inafa’maolek: the core Chamoru value of reciprocity and collective care.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
STORY SOVEREIGNTY
Indigenous communities should control how our stories are told, used, and shared. Our productions are developed alongside the communities they represent, grounded in cultural protocols and shared ownership.
NARRATIVE POWER
Stories shape public imagination, move resources, and influence policy. Strategic storytelling can shift how the world understands justice, climate, and Indigenous leadership in these spaces.
INDIGENOUS SELF-DETERMINATION
Environmental justice must confront militarism and structural inequality while centering Indigenous knowledge systems and self-determination.
EQUITY AND CARE
Fair compensation for Indigenous artists, elders, youth creatives, and frontline partners. Our storytelling work is part of building a sustainable ecosystem of resources and care for Pacific communities.
WHAT WE DO
Through documentary filmmaking and educational media, we tell stories that help move us toward justice and Indigenous self-determination. We collaborate across our region, the broader Pacific and beyond with grassroots organizers, educators, cultural institutions, and legal advocates – co-creating media that supports active campaigns and community priorities.
DOCUMENTARY AND IMPACT STORYTELLING
Indigenous-led films that elevate frontline communities and bring Pacific perspectives to global conversations on climate justice, militarization, and sovereignty. Our current feature documentary, In Defense of the Future, follows the Indigenous Pacific leaders who helped bring the largest climate case in International Court of Justice history.
EDUCATION AT SCALE
Classroom media that strengthens language, culture, and environmental stewardship for K–12 youth and college classrooms. Officially acquired by Guam DOE, Nihi’s Educational Resource Library is used by public school teachers all across the island.
CAMPAIGN MEDIA FOR REAL-WORLD CHANGE
Strategic storytelling developed alongside community organizers and legal advocates to support policy change, public awareness, and grassroots advocacy.
TRAINING AND WORKFORCE PATHWAYS
Paid production roles, mentorship, and workshops that build the Pacific’s pool of Indigenous filmmakers, editors, animators, and media strategists.
